Only a few local options? Consider Delhi too
Dr. Sunita Singh Rathore, Gynecologist and IVF Specialist, Delhi Medical Council Reg. No. 18257.
With a short list close to home, some Chennai couples like to hear a second plan before choosing. Our doctor can study your Chennai reports on WhatsApp and outline one.
Chennai's list is short and widely spread. Adambakkam and Saidapet lie in the south of the city, Pallavaram further out to the south-west, and Anna Nagar West Extension in the west. A couple living in the north may find no registered surrogacy clinic close by.
All four carry Tamil Nadu numbers in a simple pattern: TN, then SC, then the year and a reference number. Three were registered in 2022 and one in 2025.
A short list does not mean poor choice, and a long list would not mean good choice. It simply means each option deserves a careful look. Below: finding clinics the list may miss, verifying one, and weighing a local clinic against a trip to Delhi.

Families from far-off cities who treated with us

Shalini and Deepak travelled from Kolkata to Delhi for treatment. One coordinator kept a single checklist for their travel, certificates, IVF and delivery, so they always knew the next step.

Gurpreet and Mandeep came to Delhi from Chandigarh. They wanted a team that understood the Surrogacy Act, and careful screening of the surrogate and a complete legal file mattered most to them.

Why the Chennai list may look short
We listed only clinics whose registry address names Chennai. Some registered clinics in the suburbs give just a locality name, with no city. Those clinics do not appear in our table, even if they are a short drive from your home.
To see them, open the registry and search by state rather than city. Filter for Tamil Nadu and scan the localities you know. The registry is updated over time, so a clinic missing today may appear later.
The Pallavaram entry shows this well. It was registered in 2025, years after the other three. Checking the list again just before you commit is a sensible habit.
Verifying a Tamil Nadu clinic before the first appointment
Do the checking before you visit, not after. It takes a few minutes and saves wasted consultations. Keep a screenshot of the registry entry with the date you checked it.
- Find the numberAsk the clinic for its surrogacy clinic registration number. A Chennai number will begin with TN/SC.
- Match it on the registrySearch the national list and confirm the clinic name and locality match.
- Look for both registrationsA surrogacy clinic must hold surrogacy registration in addition to ART registration. Request a copy of each.
- Check the datesART registrations are renewed every five years. Make sure the one you are shown is current.
Once a clinic passes these checks, move on to cost and care. Ask for an itemised written estimate, the insurance term for the surrogate and the number of embryo transfers covered.
It also helps to ask how the clinic handles couples who live far from it. A clinic across town still means a long drive on scan mornings. Knowing which steps can be done nearby, and which cannot, gives you a fair picture of the time involved.
A clinic across town or a flight to Delhi
For many Chennai couples, the real choice is between a local clinic some distance away and a clinic in another city. Each has trade-offs.
| Point to weigh | Local Chennai clinic | Our Delhi clinic |
|---|---|---|
| Travel | A drive across the city | About 2 hours 50 minutes by air |
| Tests and early scans | At the clinic | At a Chennai lab, reviewed on WhatsApp |
| Who plans the case | Ask the clinic | One doctor plans every step |
| Estimate | Ask for it itemised and in writing | Itemised and in writing before treatment |
The trip that matters most is egg collection, which needs a stay of several days in Delhi. Our Chennai surrogacy cost page explains how to plan it.
Paperwork stays in Tamil Nadu either way
Wherever you treat, you apply to the District Medical Board of the state where you live or work. For most Chennai couples, that is Tamil Nadu. Choosing a Delhi clinic does not move your certificate application to Delhi.
The medical indication certificate and the essentiality certificate each stay valid for one year. Near the end of the process, a Magistrate's court passes the parentage and custody order for the baby. Your advocate tells you which court and documents apply.
