A second opinion from Delhi, before you commit
Dr. Sunita Singh Rathore, Gynecologist and IVF Specialist, Delhi Medical Council Reg. No. 18257.
Kolkata couples often ask our Delhi doctor to look over a plan or a quote from a local clinic. Reports can be shared on WhatsApp, so the first step needs no flight.
Kolkata is not short of registered surrogacy clinics. The entries we found are spread across south and central Kolkata and Salt Lake.
For several of them, the registry gives only "Kolkata" as the address, with no locality. That is why the Area column below says Kolkata for five entries. Call the clinic to confirm where its surrogacy unit actually sits before you plan your visits around it.
With this much choice, the hard part is comparing well rather than finding a clinic at all. The sections below explain how to read the registry entries, how to narrow the list, and when it makes sense to look outside the city.

Families who were treated with us
-
Shalini and Deepak travelled from Kolkata to Delhi for treatment. One coordinator kept a single checklist for their travel, certificates, IVF and delivery, so they always knew the next step.

Gurpreet and Mandeep came to Delhi from Chandigarh. They wanted a team that understood the Surrogacy Act, and careful screening of the surrogate and a complete legal file mattered most to them.

Reading a West Bengal registration number
Most Kolkata entries follow one pattern, for example WB/SC/2022/10197/13. WB stands for West Bengal, SC appears on surrogacy clinic entries, and the four digits after it show a year. The numbers that follow identify the registration itself.
One entry on our list uses a longer format that includes the word KOLKATA. Formats vary, so do not judge a clinic by the shape of its number. Search the clinic's name on the registry and check that the number matches what the clinic shows you.
Narrowing a long list to two or three
- Confirm the surrogacy registration, which is separate from the ART registration.
- Ask who will plan your treatment, and whether the same doctor stays with you throughout.
- Request an itemised written estimate that states how many embryo transfers are included.
- Ask how the clinic supports the medical board and appropriate authority applications.
- Find out where the surrogate's pregnancy care and delivery will take place.
Two or three clinics that pass all five checks are enough to compare. A longer shortlist often makes the decision harder, not easier.
Questions for the first meeting
Take the same short list of questions to each shortlisted clinic. The answers are easier to compare when they come in the same order.
- RegistrationMay we see your surrogacy clinic certificate and its number?
- TransfersHow many embryo transfer attempts does your estimate cover, out of the three the law allows?
- Surrogate careWhich hospital handles her pregnancy check-ups and delivery?
- PaperworkWho prepares the documents for the certificates and the court order?
- Frozen embryosWhat happens to spare embryos, and what does storage cost each year?
When to bring Delhi into the comparison
Most Kolkata couples have no need to travel. A Delhi consultation is worth considering when local advice has left questions open. Typical cases are repeated failed transfers, conflicting views on whether surrogacy is really needed, or a quote you cannot make sense of.
Begin with your reports on WhatsApp. If you then decide to visit, a flight takes about 2 hours 15 minutes and the Rajdhani about 17 hours. Couples treated in Delhi usually make three to five trips, so weigh that against a clinic you can reach across town.
Keeping track of what each clinic told you
After two or three meetings, the details blur. Keep one page per clinic with its registration number, the doctor's name, the estimate total and what it leaves out. Note anything the clinic promised verbally and ask for it in writing.
If one clinic stands out on paper, a short follow-up call to clear the remaining doubts is usually enough to decide.
Is there a best surrogacy clinic in Kolkata?
No registry ranks clinics, and appearing on the list is not a recommendation. The best way to choose is the method above: verify the registration, ask every clinic the same questions, and compare in writing.
It also helps to know what a lawful clinic must do. Our page on surrogacy law in India sets this out, and the eligibility rules show what a clinic should check about you.
