Surrogacy Centre in Mumbai: 13 Govt-Registered Clinics (2026 List)

On 27 October 2026, the National ART & Surrogacy Registry list showed 13 registered surrogacy clinics with a Mumbai address. Their registration numbers follow local formats, so match each one on the registry instead of judging by how it looks. Navi Mumbai and Thane clinics are listed separately on the registry and are not counted here.

The registered surrogacy clinics in Mumbai stretch the length of the city. Colaba, Kemps Corner and Peddar Road sit at the southern end. Ghatkopar, Bhandup and Powai are in the eastern suburbs, with Khar, Andheri, Malad and Borivali to the west and north.

The list mixes large hospitals, nursing homes and stand-alone fertility clinics. One group appears twice, for its Bhandup West and Borivali East units, because each place that carries out surrogacy holds its own registration.

The numbers themselves look unlike the DL/SC or GJ/SC style used in many other states. Some begin with short letter codes, others with MOH or MOHN. That is a local format, not a warning sign, but it does mean you should check each number on the registry itself.

What other couples went through

  • Shalini and Deepak travelled from Kolkata to Delhi for treatment. One coordinator kept a single checklist for their travel, certificates, IVF and delivery, so they always knew the next step.

  • Gurpreet and Mandeep came to Delhi from Chandigarh. They wanted a team that understood the Surrogacy Act, and careful screening of the surrogate and a complete legal file mattered most to them.

How to read a Mumbai registration number

Take three examples from the table: D/2023/SR-001, KW/01/SR/2023 and MOH/S/04/SUR/2023. They follow different patterns, yet all three appear on the national list.

Several begin with a short code such as D, KW, HW, PN or RC. These look like Mumbai's ward codes, but the registry list does not explain them, so do not rely on the prefix alone.

What matters is a full match. The number on the clinic's surrogacy certificate, the clinic's name and its address should all agree with one row on the registry. If the clinic shows only an ART (IVF) registration, that is not enough, because surrogacy needs a separate registration.

Questions to put to a Mumbai surrogacy clinic

  1. RegistrationAsk to see the surrogacy clinic certificate, then search the same number on the registry.
  2. Delivery hospitalAsk where the surrogate will give birth. Delivery charges vary a great deal across Mumbai, so the hospital named matters.
  3. TransfersAsk how many embryo transfers the quote covers. The Act caps attempts at three per surrogate.
  4. InsuranceAsk who buys the surrogate's 36-month insurance and what it covers.
  5. The doctorAsk who will plan your treatment and whether that doctor sees you at each step.
  6. In writingAsk for an itemised estimate before you pay anything.

When the clinic and the delivery hospital differ

A surrogacy clinic in Mumbai does not always deliver the baby under its own roof. Some quotes name a separate maternity hospital for the birth, and that hospital sets its own charges.

Ask for the delivery hospital's name in writing. Then ask what happens if a caesarean, a longer stay or newborn care is needed, and who pays for each.

The same applies to pregnancy care. Find out where the surrogate will have her check-ups and scans, and whether those visits are part of the figure you were given. A clinic that answers these points clearly is easier to plan with.

What about Navi Mumbai and Thane?

Our table covers only clinics whose registry address names Mumbai. Clinics in Navi Mumbai and Thane have their own entries on the registry, so they do not show up here.

If one of them is closer to your home, search the registry under Maharashtra and apply the same checks. A short distance helps on egg collection and transfer days. Registration and a clear written estimate matter more across the whole process.

Staying in Mumbai or coming to Delhi

A registered clinic near home saves flights and hotel nights. That is a real advantage, especially on the days when timing is fixed.

Others want a specific doctor or a fresh look after earlier treatment. At our Delhi clinic, one doctor plans the whole treatment, and you get a written itemised estimate first. Tests and scans can be done in Mumbai and reviewed on WhatsApp, so most couples fly in three or four times.

Whichever route you pick, compare the full figure, not the package alone. Our Mumbai surrogacy cost page lists every line, and the certificates guide explains what happens before treatment can begin.

Choosing a registered surrogacy clinic in Mumbai

How many registered surrogacy centres does Mumbai have?

When we checked on 27 October 2026, the registry list showed 13 entries with a Mumbai address. The registry changes over time, so look at it again before you decide.

Why is one hospital group listed twice in Mumbai?

It has two units, one in Bhandup West and one in Borivali East. Each unit that carries out surrogacy holds its own registration, so each has its own row.

What do prefixes like D, KW or MOH mean in a Mumbai registration number?

The registry list does not explain them. Treat them as a local format and confirm that the full number, name and address match one registry entry.

Is a clinic in Thane or Navi Mumbai part of this list?

No. We counted only clinics whose registry address says Mumbai. Search the registry for Maharashtra to see registered clinics in Thane and Navi Mumbai.

Is a large Mumbai hospital a safer choice than a smaller registered clinic?

Both must hold the same surrogacy registration to offer surrogacy. Judge each by the doctor who will treat you, the transfers and insurance included, and a clear written estimate.

With so many options, how should a Mumbai couple pick one clinic?

Shortlist only registered clinics and ask each the same questions. Compare itemised estimates line by line, including the delivery hospital. Add one out-of-city option if you want a second opinion.
