At about 2 hours 50 minutes by air, Chennai sits at the far end of the routes our couples fly. Distance does not change the clinic fee. A Chennai couple pays the same base cost as a couple living in Delhi. What it changes is the travel bill and the number of nights you spend away from home.
Chennai also has only a small group of registered surrogacy clinics, spread across the south and west of the city. Some couples therefore look further afield before deciding.
The figures here fall into three parts: our package, extras for some patients, and costs that every legal surrogacy carries. Further down, we explain how to plan the trip for egg collection, which is the one that takes the most days. Pre-treatment tests and early scans can stay in Chennai and be shared on WhatsApp.
Surrogacy package for couples travelling from Chennai
₹4–5 lakhSurrogacy treatment package
- Consultations and treatment planning
- IVF to create embryos (stimulation, egg collection, lab work)
- Embryo freezing
- Embryo transfer to the surrogate
- Surrogate medical screening
The exact figure depends on the patient's condition and how treatment goes. It is confirmed in a written estimate before any step begins.
Costs that depend on your medical situation
Most Chennai couples will need only some of these, or none. The doctor tells you which are likely after reviewing reports sent from Chennai.
| Additional IVF cycle | ₹1,50,000 – ₹2,00,000 |
| Additional embryo transfer (up to 3 attempts allowed) | ₹50,000 – ₹1,00,000 |
| Donor eggs (when medically certified) | ₹1,50,000 – ₹2,50,000 |
| Donor sperm (when medically certified) | ₹25,000 – ₹65,000 |

Costs the law builds into every surrogacy
These follow from the Surrogacy Act and apply whichever city you treat in. Flights from Chennai are not part of this table.

Families who made the long trip to Delhi
-
Shalini and Deepak travelled from Kolkata to Delhi for treatment. One coordinator kept a single checklist for their travel, certificates, IVF and delivery, so they always knew the next step.

Gurpreet and Mandeep came to Delhi from Chandigarh. They wanted a team that understood the Surrogacy Act, and careful screening of the surrogate and a complete legal file mattered most to them.

A Chennai to Delhi travel budget
Treat travel as a fourth table, alongside the three above. It has three parts: fares, a place to stay and local transport in Delhi.
| Trip | Who flies | Nights in Delhi |
|---|---|---|
| First consultation | Both partners | One or two |
| Egg collection | Wife; husband for the sample | The longest stay of the process |
| Review, if advised | Usually one partner, or none if done on WhatsApp | Often none |
The embryo transfer is carried out for the surrogate. You do not need to rest afterwards, so it rarely needs a separate trip from Chennai.
For the stay itself, a place near the clinic saves time on scan mornings. Fares from Chennai change a lot with the booking date. The consultation trip can be booked early, while the collection trip is best booked once the doctor gives a likely window.
The egg collection trip takes the most days
This is the visit to plan carefully. Stimulation injections usually run for about 8 to 12 days. Early scans in that period can be done in Chennai, but the final scans should be done at our clinic, because they decide the collection date.
So the wife flies in for the last part of stimulation, not the start. Egg collection follows about a day and a half after the trigger injection. She should rest for the remainder of that day and fly back the next day or later.
Keep return tickets flexible. The final scans can move collection by a day or two, and a change fee costs less than a missed date.
What follows the package
The package ends with the embryo transfer. After that come the costs set by law, and they are larger than many couples expect.
- The surrogate's pregnancy care, at ₹4,00,000 – ₹4,50,000
- A normal delivery, at ₹1,50,000 – ₹2,00,000, or a caesarean at ₹1,50,000 – ₹2,00,000
- Insurance for the surrogate for 36 months, at ₹65,000 – ₹1,45,000
- Legal documents and the parentage order, at ₹1,60,000 – ₹3,20,000
Together with the certificates and case coordination, the full surrogacy cost comes to ₹13.65–20.25 lakh. Compare this with the national cost guide.
Two lines can still change after the pregnancy begins. Twins add ₹1,00,000 – ₹2,00,000, and further legal work, if your case needs it, is shown in the condition table. Your written estimate notes both so neither comes as a surprise later.
Tamil Nadu certificates for a Delhi treatment
A Chennai couple applies for the medical indication certificate to the District Medical Board of the state where they live or work. For most, that is Tamil Nadu. Next, you seek the essentiality certificate from the appropriate authority that oversees the board.
Each certificate is valid for one year. Start the paperwork when the doctor confirms that surrogacy is medically indicated, so the dates line up with treatment. If treatment is delayed, a certificate can lapse before it is used. Keeping a simple timeline, shared between you, your advocate and our team, helps avoid that. The full order of steps is on our process page.
How the altruistic rules shape the bill
The Surrogacy Act allows only altruistic surrogacy. The surrogate receives no fee, which is why her costs appear as medical care, insurance and lost wages instead.
The law also caps embryo transfers at three attempts with one surrogate. Each extra attempt costs ₹50,000 – ₹1,00,000. This IVF surrogacy route is open to married couples who meet the age limits and have a certified medical need.
The surrogate must be a willing, ever-married woman aged 25 to 35 who has a child of her own. She may act as a surrogate only once in her life. She cannot provide her own eggs, and she does not have to be a relative of the couple.
